Top Flight Performance started as a vision during the strange and uncertain times of COVID. The name came to life during a game of Apex Legends on the PS4 with my best friend Ty. At first, it didn’t feel real, but once things started to move, it became clear. In June 2020, the first group of athletes walked through the doors, and Top Flight became a reality.

From an early age, I always knew I wanted to train athletes once my own playing career was over. I just didn’t expect that transition to happen so soon. I always envisioned myself playing professional ball into my 30s, then using that experience and the money to start a business training the next generation. But God had other plans. I was blessed to play in one professional baseball game, and just like that, my pro career was over. Short and quick.

I’ve always had a heart for helping others, especially athletes, because I understand what they’re going through. I’ve walked that path, trying to earn a college scholarship and, for a lucky few, chasing a professional career. It takes more than just talent. It takes sacrifice, hard work, and dedication. That’s what I try to instill in every athlete who walks through the doors of Top Flight Performance.

Yes, I’m a strength coach now, but that mindset didn’t click until after I stopped playing. During my career, I didn’t take the weight room as seriously as I should have. I believed that my speed, solid hitting, decent arm, and natural athleticism would automatically earn me a draft spot. I was wrong. Talent alone will only take you so far. I learned that the hard way.

Now, it’s my mission to make sure our athletes don’t repeat the mistakes I made. The biggest ones? Not prioritizing the weight room and not fueling my body properly. In recruiting, there’s something known as the “eye test” — when a coach or scout looks at an athlete and asks: Does this player look physically ready? Can their body handle the grind of a 60+ game season? Even if you’re talented, if you don’t look the part, you can get overlooked. Now more than ever, coaches want kids who are physically ready to play the moment they step foot on campus.

I struggled with frequent injuries throughout my career, especially hamstring issues. I even tweaked one during a pro tryout. Those injuries were a direct result of bad habits I formed in college by not taking training and nutrition seriously enough.

At Top Flight, we’re building more than just strong athletes. We’re building disciplined, committed young people. It’s a space where athletes can be themselves, but they also need to put in the work. No one can do it for them. If they’re serious about their development, we’ll be here to guide them every step of the way.
